Aiyana is a sweet little 8-year-old who was born with epilepsy and various other disabilities. Sadly, she only functions at an 8-month-old level. She does not speak, cannot walk and has fragile bones that have resulted in numerous hospitalizations. As she was getting her diaper changed recently, the top of her femur broke.
Her mom, who is now a single mom due to divorce, has two other children to care for and herself suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. Little or no financial support is provided by the children’s father who is now absent from their lives. She struggles just to put food on the table and pay their monthly bills. Their handicapped-accessible van was literally falling apart and was a serious safety issue.
The day we received the email from Aiyana’s grandmother, one of our other families (Caleb with the 18 adopted special needs siblings) called to say that since we were able to provide them with a badly needed upgraded van, they wanted to “pay it forward” and donate one of their older vans to one of our other families. In the course of two days, we were all so excited to make this transfer from Caleb’s family to Aiyana’s family!
Provided handicapped-accessible van
Providing special brain re-entrainment therapy
Provide food for family and arranged for them to go to food bank
Aiyana suffers from intractable seizure disorder which started at 5 1/2 weeks old. The seizures cause bone fractures. The doctors call her a mystery diagnosis as she doesn’t talk or walk. She is the oldest child of 3 from a single mom that got out of a violent situation trying to give them the life they deserve.
